Stock management
Aiming to keep stocks under control and optimised in relation to actual requirements is a major challenge for companies, in order to optimise their cash flow while ensuring a high level of service. We can work with you to define target stock levels and the associated management methods.
Our convictions
Define the service offering upstream
Stock meets a strategic customer service need: the mismatch between the desired lead time and the time taken to make products available.
In order to have the right stock, the service offer must be clearly defined upstream.
Segment to govern better
- The same management method cannot be successfully applied to all types of flow and items.
- Items must be segmented (ABC/XYZ analysis for example) to adapt management methods to the behaviour of the items, in line with the service offering.
Taking a step back from management methods
- It is essential to periodically review the company’s stock management practices.
- This helps to avoid efforts to optimise an unnecessary parameter (safety stock, for example), or more generally to readjust the categories of items according to their life cycle (design, production, storage and end of life).
Prioritise product management according to importance
- Management methods must require management energy proportional to the importance of the products.
- This importance may depend on the volume occupied in the warehouse, the danger/unit value of the products, the associated cash flow and the customer service promised…
Optimising safety stock
- Safety stock must be constantly optimised according to its usefulness. For example, if the stock never falls below the safety threshold, this means that variability is low and that it can therefore be questioned.
